Vol. 1, No. 15 North Carolina School of the Arts May 4, 1967 COMPOSER'S CONGER CONDODINA HOLDS MODERN CLASSES Anna Condodina, presently a member of the Jose Limon company and American Dance Theatre conducted a week-long session of classes in mod ern dance at NCSA. Her academic pursuits have led her to an A.B. degree from Temple University in Philadelphia, graduate work at Smith College, and a diploma in dance from Julliard. Miss Condodina has trained with Ballet Theatre, Robert Joffery Bal let Center, and American Ballet Cen ter. She taught for three years at Smith and one year at Mt. Holyoke College. For one season, she taught and assisted Jose Limon at the Per forming Arts Academy in Pennsylvania. In 1962 Miss Condodina received a grant from the U.S. Information services to perform an extensive lecture-demonstration series in Greece. She was a soloist with the Greek Chorodrama for the Greek National Modern Dance Company. The past five summers have been spent as a faculty member at Conr necticut College. •k-Jck-kick-kick-kititic-k-k-k FORMA.L DANCE MAY 20th 8:00 - 12:30 If you have wondered what that scribbled notation on your cafeteria tray would sound like, you will have your chance on May 16, at 7:00 in the auditorium. The composition majors (that zany bunch that writes music on everything) will then present their recital. Bob Vodnoy will have two of his compositions performed. Sonata for violin will be played by Lucy Chapman, accompanied by Mark Walsh on the piano. The first movement of Bob’s symphony will also be performed by the orches tra . A duet for soprano and tenor, ”To a Stranger", based on Walt Whitman’s poem, will be one of Michael Colina’s pieces to be premiered. This will be performed by Sandra Plexico and Douglas Decatur with Mike accompanying on the piano. Both Mike's Overture for orches tra and Canto for orchestra will be premiered. Octet by Keith Gates will feature Maura Giannini, violin; Margaret Tait, cello; Ransom Wilson, flute; Robert Sorton, oboe; Arturo Ciompi, clarinet; Mr. Mark Popkin, bassoon; Gary Buchanan, trumpet; and John Epperson, horn. Two arias from Keith's opera "Escurial" will be debuted by Douglas Decatur, tenor. Keith will perform his own Suite for piano. All three of these composers are students of Dr. Louils Mennini. ALL THREE DEPARTMENTS COMBINE FOR PROGRAM IN ASHEVILLE All three departments were repre sented Friday, May 5, in Asheville^ . North Carolina. A fund raising program was being held at Asheville-Biltmore College in which members of the drama, dance, and music departments performed. Students of the drama department did a series of improvisations; the dance department performed "Eine Kleine Nacht- music" by Mozart; and Sandra Plexico, accompanied by Hal Tyson sang English songs by Hageman and Duke, the French song "Nell” by Faure, and "0 Mio Babbino Caro" from GIANNI SCHICCHI by Puccini. i
